A day in the life of interns at Bridg

A day in the life of interns at Bridg
Every year, Bridg opens its doors to a group of driven interns eager to turn classroom theory into real projects with real impact. This spring, three students from the Applied Computer Science program at Karel de Grote Hogeschool joined the Metix team: Leonid Romaniukha, Marwan Akhandaf, and Victor Clement – bringing curiosity, code and a lot of energy.

A day at Bridg

When the day kicks off, everyone has their own routine. Victor makes the early commute from Brussels, dodging traffic and heading straight for the coffee machine when he arrives. Marwan grabs his bottle of water, checks his emails and Teams messages, and scribbles down a few to-do’s to shape his day. Leonid’s mornings vary: sometimes he dives right in, other times he takes a moment to sync up with the team.

Once they settle in, it’s all about building, improving, and learning. Leonid jumps right into the backend development flow, deploying parts of the application in Azure. Marwan spends most of his day developing the “Griffier” app in Flutter, occasionally helping his teammate with the back office. Victor switches between fine-tuning the web interface and tackling small project management tasks. Or in short: they’re constantly moving between code, collaboration, and creative thinking.

Compared to school, the focus is sharper and the pressure different. Instead of juggling several assignments and courses, they can dive deep into one meaningful project. “And there’s more room to suggest different approaches,” adds Marwan.

Something that stood out from the start is the level of trust. Marwan was struck by how much responsibility interns are given from day one. “You’re not just watching from the sidelines. You’re part of the team.” Victor was impressed by the sheer size of the company. And Leonid? Not much could surprise him, really 😊?

The biggest challenge? Getting it right: not just working code, but good code.
Clean code, clear structure, and attention to detail matter more than ever here. “At school you can get away with being a bit sloppy,” says Victor, “but not here.” Marwan’s biggest challenge? Making sure the app works seamlessly with the AI features it’s supposed to include. And for Leonid, cross-department communication is something he’s learning to handle more confidently.

During the day, each intern finds motivation in something different. For Marwan, it’s the freedom to pitch his own ideas. Victor appreciates learning from experienced colleagues, while Leonid enjoys working on a project that uses a tech stack he knows well.

As the day winds down, there’s always time for a chat. Whether it’s a final check-in with their mentor, planning next steps, or just some light small talk over a last coffee, the day ends on a casual note. And just like that, another day wraps up, with new skills gained and more ideas brewing for tomorrow.
